With total domestic sales of 5,829 units in June 2025, up from 4,644 units in June 2024, MG Motor India reported a 26% year-over-year (YoY) growth, demonstrating their continued leadership in the EV market. This increase is despite an 8% month-over-month (MoM) drop from 6,304 units in May 2025. Although MG’s electric vehicles are becoming more popular, the company’s older models, such as the Hector, Astor, and Gloster, are beginning to lose their appeal.

The New Sales Champion: MG Windsor EV

The MG Windsor EV, which was only introduced a few months ago, has quickly emerged as the brand’s new star. It contributed 3,799 units in June 2025, which was a significant amount and nearly 65% of MG’s monthly sales. Windsor’s performance in its first full month indicates that the demand for midsize electric SUVs in India is only increasing, despite a 4% MoM decline from May’s 3,939 units.

Its sleek design, high-tech interior, and useful electric range have made it an immediate hit and swiftly eclipsed MG’s previous models. In an increasingly competitive EV market, MG Motor India is finding that the Windsor EV is a volume driver that helps the brand hold onto its market share.

MG Comet: A Little Jump Following a Hard Drop

In June 2025, 856 MG Comets, the brand’s most economical EV, were sold. Despite a 34% year-over-year decrease from 1,300 units in June 2024, this represents a 4% improvement over May 2025, suggesting a modest recovery. The Comet’s sustained performance may be impacted by the fierce competition it faces in the entry-level EV market, despite its small size and low price.

MG Hector: A Sharp Drop for the Former Bestseller

The MG Hector, which was once the company’s flagship SUV in India, is currently seeing a sharp decline in sales. In June 2025, it only managed 757 units, a startling 56% decrease from 1,713 units the previous year. This sharp decline has been exacerbated by Hector’s outdated styling, dearth of EV options, and escalating competition from more recent mid-size SUVs.

MG ZS EV: Declining Sales Due to Increasing Competition

The number of the MG ZS EV, one of the first high-end electric SUVs in India, is also gradually declining. In June 2025, it recorded 317 units, a 43% YoY decrease from 561 units. It dropped 12% even on a month-over-month basis. The ZS EV may require an update to recover since competitors provide newer models with superior features and range.

Is MG Gloster and Astor on the Verge of Obsolescence?

With only 66 units sold in June, the MG Astor, a chic midsize gasoline SUV, had its worst-ever monthly performance. Compared to June 2024, when it sold 938 units, that represents a startling 93% decrease. Similarly, the MG Gloster, which was once praised for its size and luxury, only sold 34 units, a 74% YoY decline.

It’s interesting to note that June technically represented a return, albeit a small one, as Gloster had no sales in May 2025. These models are losing favor, and to stay relevant, they will either require significant improvements or robust marketing support.

MG M9, Cyberster & Majestor: A New Hope on the Horizon

MG isn’t slowing down, even though some models are fading. The business is getting ready to introduce its next luxury electric MPV, the M9, which will be offered through its MG Select stores and have a 90 kWh battery pack. When it launches, this will be the longest electric MPV in India, demonstrating MG’s audacious entry into the high-end EV market.

In the works are also:

The Cyberster is a fashionable two-door electric sports vehicle designed for enthusiasts.

The Gloster is anticipated to be surpassed by the Majestor, a full-size luxury SUV.

These impending releases show that MG is committed to providing cutting-edge, high-end electric products to future-proof its portfolio.
