A terrible incident occurred in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, where a 35-year-old wild elephant died after falling into an open well. The elephant had emerged from the surrounding forest in pursuit of sustenance and water. It accidentally fell into a deep, exposed well while strolling close to a village.

This unfortunate incident occurred in a village near a forest. The well was about 50 feet deep, according to the forest department. The darkness and dense vegetation likely prevented the elephant from seeing the well. Early in the morning, the villagers alerted the forest department to strange noises arriving from the well.

With the assistance of local police, firefighters, and forest officials, rescue operations got underway right away. Large excavators and cranes were brought to the location. For several hours, the team tried to save the elephant. Unfortunately, the elephant had already passed out by the time it was removed. The fall caused serious harm to the animal, which most likely died from shock and internal bleeding.

Veterinarians who carried out the post-mortem verified that the elephant’s injuries suffered in the fall were the primary cause of its demise. The forest crew afterwards buried the body in line with wildlife regulations.

Such an incident has happened before. During the summer and dry seasons, a lot of wild animals come into contact with people in dry seasons to search of water. Open wells without protective covers are very dangerous for them. Environmentalists and animal lovers have requested local authorities to cover such wells or build fences around them to prevent such accidents.

In addition to surveying the area, forest officials agreed to cover or fence off dangerous wells that are close to forest zones. In order to prevent animals from approaching residential areas too closely, they also want to add more water to the sources inside the forest.

This awful occurrence highlights the need for better planning and care for both people and wildlife. The elephant’s approving is an enormous tragedy, and perhaps action will be taken shortly to avoid similar heartbreaking events in the future.
