Ex-TCS Contract Worker Protests: In protest, a TCS worker set up camp outside the IT company’s Pune headquarters, demanding that his unpaid salary be credited. On social media, a picture of Saurabh More, the employee, dozing off on the pavement has gone viral.
More is seen using his bag as a pillow while dozing off on the sidewalk in the now-viral photo. A handwritten letter is also seen next to him in the photo.
What is written in the letter from the TCS employee?
Part of his letter stated, “I reported back to the TCS Sahyadri Park Pune Office on July 29, and my ID is still not active on Ultimate and TCS systems, and I have not received my salary, which was confirmed on the 30th of July 2025 meeting.”
He went on to say that he was told in the meeting that he would get paid on July 31st, the following day. The letter went on to say, “I’ve told HR that I don’t have any money and will be forced to sleep and live outside TCS on the footpath,” but HR has not replied and has remained silent. I have thus been residing on the sidewalk in front of TCS since 29 July.
In a statement, the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) declared, “We support the TCS employee who is demonstrating outside their Pune office over his unpaid salary. It is admirable that he had the guts to speak up in such a dire situation.
However, it further stated, “The Labour Office should also be formally notified of any job-related concerns and salary delays. While protesting is a powerful visual message, it is strengthened, and accountability is forced when combined with a legal complaint.
The forum concluded by reminding the techies that their rights are “protected under Indian labour laws,” so they shouldn’t be afraid to seek legal assistance.
TCS reacts
More’s salary was withheld because of an unapproved absence from work, according to the IT company, which has acknowledged the incident. “The employee’s absence from the office is an example of unapproved absence. Payroll was suspended during this time in compliance with standard procedure, TCS said in a statement to FinancialExpress.com.
The business added that he had shown up for work and asked to be reinstated.
The statement went on to say, “We have currently made accommodations for him and are working to support him in resolving the matter in a fair and constructive manner.”
Social media responses to the statement, “TCS seems to have abandoned…”
“Very regrettable. According to one social media user, TCS seems to have strayed from the core principles that the Tata Group once upheld.
“Was the employee on loss of pay and only returned to work after payroll cut off?” another person asked. This is quite typical. Salary processing is done in batches rather than one at a time.
“The TCS management has gone crazy since Ratan Tata. “No ethics,” remarked a third.
“Shameful,” wrote a fourth, and “More tech layoffs will continue as AI progresses and is adopted by business, releasing human manpower,” wrote a fifth.
As part of its larger restructuring plan, TCS recently announced a global workforce realignment. About 12,000 workers, or 2% of its global workforce, are anticipated to be impacted by the change.
