A significant step forward in India-Philippines relations was made on Tuesday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the Philippines in New Delhi for bilateral talks.
By cutting out a plan to strengthen collaboration in the areas of trade, defense, regional security, and cultural exchanges, the leaders declared the promotion of ties to a strategic partnership.
PM Modi emphasized the increasing momentum in bilateral trade, which has now surpassed $3 billion, in a joint address after the discussions.
Our top goal will be to finish the India-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement review as soon as possible in order to reinforce this even more. Additionally, we have made the decision to pursue a bilateral preferential trade agreement,” he stated.
Additionally, Modi thanked the Philippine government for reaffirming its support for India’s war on terrorism and for harshly denouncing the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The 75th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relations fell on the same day as the discussions.
PM Modi emphasized that although official diplomatic ties are relatively new, ties between civilization’s date back centuries. “Maharadia Lawana, the Ramayana of the Philippines, is living proof of our ancient cultural connection,” he said.
PM Modi said that “dialogues at every level and cooperation in every sector have been the identity of our relations for a long time now.” The leaders also talked about a wide range of regional and international issues.
The new strategic partnership will be executed through an extensive strategy which demonstrates both nations’ shared commitment to increased economic integration and a rules-based regional order.
