After leading India to a six-run victory over England in a tense conclusion to the fifth and final Test match at The Oval, Mohammed Siraj broke down in tears. As a result, the five-match series concluded 2-2, which accurately reflected a match that featured thrilling turns in each of the five games.
Siraj ended the match with nine wickets, such as five wickets in the second innings. Siraj fell in the ground after bowling Gus Atkinson to end the game, and his teammates soon gathered around him to celebration.
“I only believe in Miya Bhai,” said young wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, put his arm around Siraj during the team’s victory lap.
With four wickets remaining, England needed just 35 runs at the start of the last day. Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton were quickly removed by Siraj’s early strike. Then, to put England down to nine, Prasidh Krishna trapped Josh Tongue LBW.
In an attempt to help Atkinson make a final stand, Chris Woakes entered with his left arm strapped up. Atkinson reduced the target to single figures by attacking the bowlers.
However, Siraj scored a famous victory by firing in a full ball that crashed into off-stump with the field spread.
India clawed their way back from the edge, not just drawing the series. At the beginning of Day 5, with England leading and the match slipping away, Siraj showed up like a man possessed.
When few gave India a chance, his ferocity, accuracy, and unwavering faith turned the tide.
